Lasuang Lukman which is located in Silungkang is one of the more unusual examples of a traditional pounding mill in West Sumatra functioning as a coffee factory. Unlike other lasuang that focused only on rice, this one shifted its function to processing coffee. What makes it even more different is that the waterwheel is no longer used, mostly because there are fewer craftsmen who can repair it and also because the water flow has reduced. The mill was originally built in the 1930s by Lukman, the grandfather of the current caretaker.
